For John Hardy’s Naga collection, MOSS created a montage film connecting the jewelry to the Balinese legend that inspired it.
In the story, Naga is a serpentine dragon who protects the people and land of Bali from his home atop a volcano. Each night he travels to the ocean to visit his love, the Pearl, returning at dawn with water falling from his scales and nourishing the earth below. The legend brings together strength and tenderness, protection and renewal.
Nathan Byrne edited the film, weaving jewelry photography, hand-drawn illustrations, natural textures, monochrome imagery and saturated graphic elements into a layered visual narrative. Rather than presenting the pieces as isolated product shots, the edit places them within the mythology, using shifts in scale, composition and pace to suggest the dragon’s movement between mountain, ocean and sky.
MOSS completed the color and finishing, preserving the detail and luminosity of the jewelry within the film’s dense collage aesthetic. The result connects John Hardy’s craftsmanship with the story of Naga in a form that feels energetic, contemporary and rooted in Balinese culture.
